Subject: [BANAT-L] Teufels in Banat - Stader and Neubeschenowa look-up

Hi Everyone,

If you haven't visited the Mercydorf Helping Hands site,
you might want to take a look at it. Jody, dynamo that she
is, has done an amazing job in setting it up. She is having
a history of the Mercydorf settlement translated, and many
of you might find this of interest. Yes, it mentions the silk
industry.

I have scoured the Mercydorf churchbooks for Teufels,
and happened upon a surprise. The death records
showed the death of a Catharina Teufl ( no maiden name ),
wife of Leonardus, on the 26th of April 1771.

I knew that Leonardus had come to Mercydorf as a
discharged member of the military in 1764.
However, the early church records showed no evidence
that he married Catharina there. I thought that he might
have been staying in a nearby town (Neubeschenowa,
perhaps?) waiting for his house to be built
when he met and married Catherine.

Since the "T" volume of Stader is not yet written, I was
hoping that Catherine had a maiden name that began with
the letters A through M, so that the mystery could be solved.
Could someone with access to the Stader books please
see if there are any Teufels in the index?

Leonardus Teufel married Clara Baltesweiler
(Waltersweiler) of Neubeschenowa right after Catharina's
death. I would really appreciate it if the person who is
writing a family book for Neubeschenowa would check to
see if there are any Teufels in that town as well.

Thank you, in advance, for your help.

Cathy Teufel O'Neill
