Welcome to the Banat list!

Billed is usually spelled with a D, although I've always heard it pronounced
like a T: bill-ETT.

For photos, one excellent site is www.billed.de
The site is in German, but you should be able to get an idea of what's there
even if you know only a few words or use a translation site like
babelfish.altavista.com

Partway down the home page, you'll see something about the Billeder
Heimatblatt. This is an annual booklet published by the Billed village
association (Heimatortsgemeinschaft Billed, or HOG Billed) which you can
order. Judging by the Web site, it also looks like they have back issues
which can be ordered.

The HOG published a 3-volume Ortsippenbuch Billed (OSB Billed) a couple
years ago. I'm not sure if it's still in print, but I and several other
members of the list have copies and can do lookups. It looks like Alex Leeb
already posted some information from the OSB for you; Alex grew up near
Billed and has been VERY helpful to those of us interested in it.

I keep a list of Banat list members who are researching surnames from
Billed. I'll add you to it and send you a copy separately. Surprisingly,
there are no matches for the names you listed except MAYER.
