I'd like to add my two-cents worth here. I think Dave is raising some
important points here. Most of us amateur genealogists are benefiting from
the hard work of a few people.
And it is not likely that any of these people will have any kind of
financial windfall from their work. Membership in the organizations sound
like a good idea to me to help join in funding the research we all depend on
so much. In addition, would it be possible for this list to give us the
names of researchers who are currently working on family books. I'm sure a
direct contribution to them would be more than welcome. A few dollars
here - a few dollars there - it all adds up and could make the difference
between a researcher continuing his work. After all, my guess is that most
of them are hard at work earning a living - contributions to our mutual
hobby might be more than welcome. And let's not forget that these family
book researchers need our family information after they left the banat in
order for that book to be complete! Thanks Dave for raising this issue.
Take care. Susan
