I have traced my North Dakota Lindemanns back through Deutschbentschek to Neubeschenowa. I now have Christianus Lindeman s/o Joannes Lindeman and Gertrudis (Pertrudis?) marrying Catherina Thisen (Tissen) d/o Carolus Thisen and Susanna on January 27, 1778 in Neubeschenowa. I found no baptismal record for either Christianus or Catherina in Neubeschenowa. There is no indication on the marriage record of where Christianus came from and no indication that he is a recent colonist. The records for that time period only sometimes indicate another village for either the bride or groom and only occasionally indicate "new colonist". I do find Catherina's parents baptising children in 1758 and 1759 in NB but no indication of where they came from prior to that time. Since I don't find Catherina being baptized there, I am assuming the family immigrated about 1757/8. Records for Neubeschenowa start in 1750 and are very scant for the first 2-3 years.

Has anyone researched the founding of villages in the early 1700's and could tell me where the initial settlers for Neubeschenowa came from? I need a clue where to start looking next.

Thanks for any help,

Mary Lindemann
