Hi Simone,
I really give you credit. It must be wonderful to be able to communicate in more than one language. I understood everything that you wrote in your e-mails, so I think you are doing very well with English.
I'm sorry. I was under the impression that the Banater Post was written in German. I already subscibe to the Banat List.
Teufel is my maiden name - and it is always a conversation starter when I am with people who speak German. Believe it or not, I have relatives named Engel(angel). I guess we Teufels are the fallen Engels.
My father's family probably came from southern Germany, but I have yet to find out where. ( Who knows? I could be related to Edwin Teufel.)
Leonhard Teufel, my ancestor, settled in Mercydorf in 1764 after leaving the military. He had a wife named Catherine, but I do not know anything about her, since the only evidence I have of her existence is her death record. They might have been married elsewhere in the Banat. She was quite a bit older than he - the Demi Moore of her day.
After Catherine's death, Leonardus married Clara Baldesweiler, whose family lived in NeuBeschenowa. I have traced all of their children in Mercydorf up until the 1830's. I hope I will meet some former Mercydorf and Darowa residents in Ulm who might know more about my family. Of course, I will have to carry a copy of my comments and questions written in German. Hand signals just won't do.
