Hello Danube Swabian Researchers,
Thanks to our John M. Michels and U of St. Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota the book
" PARTISAN AND COMMUNIST REPRESSION AND CRIMES IN CROATIA - 1944-1946 - DOCUMENTS - SLAVONIA, SYRMIA AND BARANYA" by Dr. Vladimir Geiger
is just about to be printed.
In the Introduction Dr. Geiger wrote:
...."Since the break-up of Yugoslavia in early 1990s and the beginning of democratization of the newly created successor states new archival
holdings were opened up, which were previously inaccessible. Historiography was then given the possibility to deal with previously
undesirable topics and problems from WWII and the immediate postwar time, which had hitherto been depicted in a one-sided manner
in Yugoslav and Croatian historiography. Thus, many claims, data and documents about how the units of PLA and People’s Liberation Army
(of Yugoslavia) (PUY)/the Yugoslav Army treated captured enemy soldiers and civilian population during WWII and particularly at its end
and immediately afterwards, were published in publicist and historiographical form in the last couple of years....
...on the fate of the Germans of Slavonia, Syrmia and Baranya at the end of WWII and immediately after it. Namely, the exodus of Yugoslav and
Croatian Germans surpasses in magnitude everything that happened in the South Slav territory in the more recent history. It was exactly the
ethnic Germans, or Volksdeutsche, who suffered the largest demographic losses in Yugoslavia. From estimates, counts and
censuses, it follows that the Yugoslav, i.e. Croatian Germans suffered the greatest real losses. However, the post-war Yugoslav Communist
government, diplomacy and historiography steadily and without scruples, added the Volksdeutsche losses to the victims of Fascism and Nazism..."
More about purchasing of the book will follow, as soon as I have the information myself!
