Message Board Post:
I am a descendant of John Colby (1764-1850) who was born in Rumford, Washington Co., VT. He married Abigail West (1776-1818) in 1791 in Corinth, VT. They both died in Sardinia, Erie Co., NY. John Colby was a son of Ezekiel Colby, one of the first settlers of Corinth, and his wife, Sarah Fowler.
My Abigail West is presumed to be a daughter of Rev. Thomas West (1732-1797), a Baptist minister, and his wife, Amie (Amey) Colegrove/Colgrove (1731-1788). Thomas and Amie West died in Vershire, Orange Co., VT. The Wests had approx. 11 children, many of whom were born in Hopkinton, Rhode Island.
According to records, Abigail and John Colby were "married by Thomas West, elder".
Abigail and John Colby were the parents of 11 children most of whom were born in Corinth. The oldest was my ancestor, Thomas Wells Colby, a Baptist minister who was born in Corinth in 1792 and died in Perry, Michigan in 1853. Thomas Wells Colby was married to Eliza Ann Hoar/Horr.
I am trying to document that Abigail West is the daughter of Thomas West and Amie Colegrove.
Can anyone help??
Thanks
