Hi Lou Ann. Unfortunately, I don't have any information about John Calvin
Barker except an anecdote from an 1893 publication about one of his
grandsons that states he supposedly fought in the war of 1812, was gone from
home 7 years during which time his wife didn't hear from him. When he came
back, she had remarried and had two or three more children. She elected to
stay with the new husband. Local researchers now say they believe that John
and the original wife got back together, but they haven't offered me any
documentation. I have documented a marriage between a John Barker and
Sophia Overton in 1796 in Perquimans Co. NC, but the mother of at least two
of John Calvin's sons was named Martha. Maybe her name was Martha Sophia?
I haven't been able to devote much time to documenting the story myself as
this line is more of a hobby to me than direct line research. I haven't
been able to prove or disprove whether my own John Barker born about
1780-1810 is connected to this clan. In my earlier message, I mentioned
Frederick Avery, Jr.... his mother was named Susannah, but she was obviously
the wife of Fred, Sr.

Kathy
