Hello all - I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on the
family below -
The John Barnes listed is my GGGgrandfather - and we still have no clue what
happend to him.

John Barnes was born about 1800, however where or when died is still unknown.
He married Tabitha Mobley, Mar 4, 1823 in Jasper Co., GA. Tabitha was the
daughter of Jethro Mobley & Esther Lovejoy.

Tabitha Mobley Barnes died early in the marriage in 1830. John and the
children continued to live in Meriwether Co., GA, with one Negro slave woman (given
to Tabitha by her father Jethro Mobley). Soon after Tabitha's death Jethro
Mobley asked John to give him the children (and the slave), promising to raise
and educate the children. He also promised that at his death the children
would receive their mother's share of the estate.

John Barnes enlisted in the Mexican-Texas Militia, as Pvt., May 18, 1836,
(the Alamo fell March 6, 1836), age 35, and, although he gave his residence as
Texas, he listed his ex- father-in-law Jethro Mobley, Harris County GA , as a
reference or next of kin. There is also a John Andrews, who also enlisted as
Pvt. May 18, 1836, age 35, giving his residence as Alabama, and also listing
Jethro Mobley, Harris Co., GA as reference or next of Kin.

Any help is much appreciated.

Dot
