Some of your information fits and some doesn't with the family
of James, Sr, who was the son of Harmon & Anna McClelland
Barnhart of Greene County PA. The following is the family
of James, Sr:
1 James Barnhart, Sr b: 1788 d: 21 April 1870, Greene Co, PA
+ Hannah b: 1799
2 Lewis Barnhart b 1820 d 1864
+ Hannah Farrell b: 1824
2 James Barnhart b: 1829
+ Sarah A. Chambers b: 1836
2 Elizabeth M. Barnhart b: 1831
2 Hannah Barnhart b: 1834 d: 1902
+ Thomas Gray b: 1825 d: 1893
2 Wilson Barnhart b: 1836 d: 1865
+ Lucinda Durbin
2 Benjamin Franklin Barnhart b: 1838
2 Sarah Melvina Barnhart b: 1841
*2nd wife of James Barnhart, Sr:
+ Jemima Babbit
2 Harmon Barnhart b: 20 Nov 1826 d 20 Nov 1902 (adopted)
+ Margaret Maria Martin b: 1829 d: 1872
*2nd wife of Harmon Barnhart:
+ Magers
Harmon was actually a very common name among the German
immigrants. It was really Hermanes, which in English is
Herman. Because of the guttural speech of the Germans
and the lack of education and spelling, usually was spelled
as it sounded, Harmon. James Sr's father Harmon was
christened "Hermanes" in New Jersey.
If this is the same family, then the wife of Jesse Hanshaw
would likely be James Jr's sister, Elizabeth.
Let me theorize for just a moment. We know Harmon was born
in Sussex Co, NJ on 15 Apr 1763 and was married to Anna
McClellan (b: abt 1765 in NJ). I have a copy of a deed where
they sold 6 acres of land in 1806 in NJ. They had a total of 9 children, some
born in NJ and some born in PA. No one knows
when Harmon Barnhart or Anna died. One possible explanation
to tie up the loose ends would be if Anna died and Harmon
remarried a woman named Sarah. He may have moved to WV or
after his death, his widow went to live with his grandaughter
Elizabeth.
This is a plausible scenario, but one which may be very hard
to substantiate. The children I have for James, Jr are in the
right time frame, but I don't have a Harmon among them nor was
James Jr's wife named Anna "Rosoly". I show that he married
Sarah A. Chambers (b: 1836). Their children were: John S (b:1859),
Mary A. (b:1865), Hannah L. (b:1867), Sarah A. (b:1870), and
Job R. (b:1879).
This will likely confuse more than help.
