Timothy, I very much appreciate your corrections regarding county info. I try to note the then existing and present names of locations, but in this case, I just posted what I had without thinking about this. Your info and documentation on Samuel are excellent. I descend from Samuel's brother William and his sister Mary Elizabeth.
Your mention that Samuel's obit says he was born in NC is the best evidence I have seen that William/Prudence were in NC (Obit info is not infallable, I have seen some where "facts" in the obit were later disproved.).
You mentioned that Samuel lived in the vicinity of his uncles, John and Samuel---I do not recall before seeing that anyone had identified but one sibling (and I am not looking up to see what his name was).
Regarding Samuel serving in a NC unit, it was not all that unusual for men to serve in units from other states. In Samuel's case, he presumably had relatives in the New Bern area. Further, it is possible that one or more families traveled from NC to GA with the Barrons and some men wanted to go back there to serve. I AM NOT suggesting that he went from GA to NC to serve, just that I consider it more probable for this to occur than you appear to. Much of the migration from NC and VA to GA occurred near the end and soon after the Rev. War, particularly for veterans, so it seems more likely that if they came from NC, it was in that time frame.
