Subject: [BARTON-L] Census that are Soundex~ lookup Tip
Date: Thu, 5 Feb 1998 13:39:36 EST
A freind of mine sent me a little cheat sheet on how to look up a
Census that is Soundex. I thought I'd share it with the rest of you!
The 1900 and the 1920 are soundex. Not the 1910.
Help tips..................
If you are going to search either the 1900 or 1920 you first would get the
soundex number ( there is a web site to do this for you).
Next get the film for that soundex number.
When looking at the soundex film - you will look for the first name -
they are in alphebetical order (surnames will be mixed).
If you find the ancestor you are looking for copy the information from the
upper right hand corner of the soundex card - the E.D. number,
the sheet number and the line number
(this tells you where to find the original copy of the census).
You then look up the E.D. number (in the booklet) and it will tell you what
census film to look at.
Get the film, find the E.D. number, then the sheet number and next the line
number. Bingo there are the people you are looking for.
Hope this Helps!
