Hi cousin! My name is Lea and I am also researching that Barton line. Rufus
was murdered in 1648. A man was charged according to the records but was not
convicted. His estate was given primarily to his wife with provisions for 2 of
his children who had not yet reached their majority. His daughter Phebe was
already married at that time and received a small monetary gift. For further
info on this family check the Mass book of Vital Statistics prior to 1850. The
family bounced back and forth from Warwick to Warren and into Swansea Mass.
for almost 100 years. There is a family Cemetary in Barton Corner RI according
to Betsey Barton Perra. She still owns some of the original Barton family
farm. She appears on this web site frequently and is willing to share her
