Edwin H. BARTON, Thomas J. LAWTON, and Martin Luther BARNETT all arrived
in Piqua, Ohio in the early 1840s. They all came from New York. All
three were business men who worked the Canal trade. BARTON open a
grocery store of imports while LAWTON & BARNETT formed a partnership of
exports of farm products. They owned and operated Canal boats. Of the
three, I have only found records of BARTON operating a Canal business in
Canastota, Madison County, New York in the 1830s. BARNETT was born in
Brookport, Monroe County, New York, another Erie Canal town. LAWTON was
born in Canada just across from Jefferson County, New York where he was
raised. I have no birth place except New York for BARTON. There common
connection is that all married women in the CROCKER family from
Cazenovia, Madison County, New York. These three women are probably
sisters. Angenett CROCKER married Edwin H. BARTON, Angeline E. CROCKER
married Thomas J. LAWTON, and Sarah Elizabeth CROCKER married Martin
Luther BARNETT.
Im looking for the CROCKER father of these three woman;
and
any BARTON family business that could be connected to the Erie Canal
1825 to 1870.
Any clues or connections are appreciated
thanks,
gary
