Message Board Post:
The Piedmont area in question is specifically the 20 counties of SW Virginia and North Carolina that essentially line Interstate 81 and was the Great Wagon Road of the Scots-Irish immigrants and others from Philedelphia and Alexandria, VA. It is not the area in Upstate New York next to Altamont where the state fair was or northeast of Indian Ladders State Park.
More information on this fascinating history is found at:

The Antebellum was the period from 1812 to 1864, not the period of high taxation in New York by Nelson Rockefeller which caused many Industries and Bartons to leave their beloved homes of that fair state for the South; for states like Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, etc. Although they may have traveled down Interstate 81 and through The Piedmont.
Any Questions? I apologize for the lack of clarity on my part, but appreciate the previous post as it made my day. However, I do need to clarify that I would like to include anyone who may have taken a breath of the Piedmont fresh air, or repaired their wagon at any one of those fine Wagon Stops along the way such as such as The Piedmont Express Lube, or eaten at one of those fine In and Out Piedmont Burger places.
