Doug, there is a good bit of info in Gary's database on this family of
Joseph. (Gary has him listed as married to Elizabeth Kimber) You can reach
the database through the Barton Historical Society website:
http://www.bartonsite.org/ (I tend to search through a maternal name and
then switch over to the Barton side once I get the right family. I use
Elizabeth Kimber to find this Joseph's family quickly.)

According to DNA results, it appears that this Joseph is not related to
Roger. One of his tested descendants shares the same DNA Lineage I as
Thomas(1,2,3) of Stafford Co VA, Thomas m Abigail of MD, Josiah of
Lancashire, Solomon of Kent, ... and a number of other families. The other
3 descendants matched each other and are grouped into Lineage VIII; not
matching any other Barton Lineage; thus we have conflicting results from the
tested participants. There are also some who question the pedigrees back to
Joseph, but the pedigrees are based on the best available info. We would
like to find more descendants of Joseph, and ones from differnet branches
than those already tested. This could possibly answer some of the
questions.

If you do identify an intermixing of Roger's descendants with the Joseph
family, we'd be interested.

ALL BARTON RESEARCHERS: Barton Historical Society is constantly seeking new
and corrected information on all of the early Barton families. If you have
information or questions about these families or about other early Barton
families, we'll be glad to hear from you.

Terry

Allen, would you have the descendants of Joseph, b. 1672? Would you send me
the descendants of the brother(s) that went to PA? Thanx, Doug

Linda: If you want another immigrant Barton from around the middle of
the
1600s, see George E. McCracken's papers in the New England Historical and
Genealogical Register starting in July 1952 and over the next six issues,
entitled "Roger Barton of Westchester County and some of his earlier
descendants." It has a Roger Barton, probably born in England in 1628,
made
a Freeman of the Connecticut colony by the General Assembly in Hartford,
12
May 1664. On 23 October 1662 he was named one of four men to lay out the
town of Brookhaven on Long Island, then claimed as part of Connecticut
colony. That seems to be his earliest recorded presence in America. He
had
six sons, Elisha, born c. 1662, Elijah, b. c. 1664, Roger, b. c. 1666,
Noah,
born c. 1668, Enoch, born c. 1669, and Joseph, b. c. 1672. This line
lived
mainly in Westchester County, NY, but in the late 19th century some
migrated
to other northern states (Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut.

My own line is:
Roger 1 (died Westchester Co. c. 1688)
Roger 2 (b. c. 1666, sheriff of Westchester Co, NY, d. c. 1714)
Roger 3 (b. 1695, lived at New Paltz, Ulster Co., NY, died between
1800
and 1810)
Isaac (b. ?, lived in Newburgh, Ulster Co., NY, living in 1799, d. ?)
Jeremiah (b. 1765, d. 1815 in Yorktown, Westchester Co., NY)
William (b. 1801 in Westchester Co, d. 1878 in Sullivan Co, NY)
Charles H. (b. 1828 in New York County, moved to Sullivan County with
his father in 1839, d. ?)
Horace William, b. 1848 in Sullivan Co, NY, lived in Greenwich,. CT,
d.
1912)
Horace Allen, b. 1893 in Greenwich, CT, d. 1947 in Greenwich, CT)
Allen Hoisington Barton (b. 1924 in Greenwich CT).
