Henry Hatcher was evidently a miller and apparently owned interests in three
mills near Proctors and Swift Creeks in Henrico County. Hatcher owned a mill
operation on Gillie Creek and sold a quarter interest to Richard Martin in
1724. In June 1733 Henry sold William Bass part of what might be another
mill operation. For £50 he deeded 2 acres on both sides of Redwater Run of
Proctors Creek and one-third of the mill. He had apparently been operating
this mill a long time for in 1712 he had bought an acre he needed on the
south side of Redwater from Philip Turpin and, in February 1712/13, as Henry
Hatcher Sr. with wife Dorothy, sold 2 acres and a third interest in the mill
to Samuel Hancock, son of William Hancock.
