Wow, I didn't expect a reply so quickly. I wasn't sure how often you would check this.

Anyway, thanks so much for the information. I think I have the birth and death info on Samuel Zane. You also answered some of my questions. I had a feeling Franklin died very young as my grandmother, Miriam, was born the year he died. I also didn't have any info on Samuel Zane Jr. How sad he only lived 3 days. That must have been very difficult on them, especially having named him after the father. I knew about "Aunt Jeanne". She was the opera singer. I don't think I knew anything about Maurice.

Thanks for the info going back from Samuel Zane. I had so little information of the generations before him. I actually have a picture of his mother (Sarah Perkins) when she was very small and another one of Samuel Zane when he was about 8. I also have a family photo with 4 generations. My mother wrote on the back of the photo who some of the people were but didn't identify several of them. I'm having so much fun with the old photos my grandmother had but it's frustrating that I have no one to ask about them. I just wish I'd found them before she died. She died so suddenly and unexpectedly that there are many unanswered questions (pneumonococcal pneumonia - she died within 6 hours of having breathing problems and calling 911). Anyway, I'm sure we all have our stories.

I would love to get any information that's available. I'm curious as to where you live? I suspect alot of the family is still back either in the midwest or east coast. Miriam and Emory (my grandparents) moved to Glasgow, Montana where my mother and her 3 sisters were born. They both died there. I grew up in Havre, Montana where my folks lived until about 12 years ago. They had 4 children and 3 of us eventually moved to Oregon so in their final years they retired here to be near us and their grandchildren. I live near Portland, OR and two of my brothers live in Salem (the wayward brother lives in Atlanta, Georgia).

By the way, when you type in Samuel Zane Batten in Google you sure get alot of hits (as I'm sure you've done). I noticed he was even referenced in a publication from 2002. We came from impressive genes!!
