When Germany became a unified nation in 1871 the state was required to keep
marriage, birth, death records. 1871 is not a hard-and-fast rule, however.
Dates varied significantly. A marriage record in 1875 is probably in the
municipal archives. It should yield information going back in time.

I am looking for Klein connections. Joseph Klein b. 1849 immigrated to
USA in 1878. His death record indicates he came from Pfaffenhoffen.
