Hi Rebecca:
Group:
Thought I had better update you on my findings and thinking.
First of all ,I am almost POSITIVE that Andrew in Smith co. Tn. that
md. alcey Jones is the son of Samuel and Susannah Baird. Then on to
Andrew and his father OLD JOHN Baird
from Liberton,Midlothian, Scotland b.. 4 Mar. 1666 ,d 6 April 1755.
Samuel and his brother Ezekiel Baird sons of Andrew, left N.J. and ended
up along the Watauga River.in N.C.
1790 first federal census of N.C.
Burke co., Ezekiel Beard 2 3 2 0 0
Sam Beard 3 2 2 0 0
Wilkes Co. Same place ,same neighbors (never moved) Only a different
census taker
a few months later.(they didn't know where the boundry lines were for the
co.)1790
Ezekiel Beard --3 2 2 0 0
Sam Beard ----4 1 1 0 0
Now one of the males turns 17 and one of the females is gone.
I think thats when Susannah died. because I found a mg. for Rebecka Beard
md. Samuel Hog 30 May 1796,William Green bondsman.(this was in Sumner
County)
Soooo Rebecka is the sister of Andrew and dau. of Samuel still in the
house in N. C.
and marrying soon after arriving in Sumner Co.,But no other female.
Now-- There was a 1793 Tax list of Wilkes Co. N.C.Watauger Settlement
showing
William Baird,Samuel Baird Sr. and Samuel baird Jr.,and Ezekiel Baird.
So--- William And Samuel Jr. are polls and at least 18 bn. by 1775.
Samuel and Susannah Rogers,Of Monmouth ,N.J. were md. 6 Aug. 1762.
Sooo Samuel Jr. probably bn. 1st 1763,and William2nd. 1764-5.
(In andrew's will,father of Samuel,he states:)
I give and bequeath unto my son Samuel; the sum of one hundred and fifty
pounds
York money to be paid him at the discretion of my executors,as he and
his FAMILY
may want it for their best benefit. unquote.
In Aug. 1792 There was a petition taken around for neighbors to sign to
create a new
county called Three Forks.(Which was denied) Some signers of the petition
were:
Samuel Baird, Bedent Baird, William Baird,Andrew Baird and Jonathon Baird
(all sons of Samuel) Others were Ezekiel, Bedent E.(Ezekiel's
son),William Blackburn, Daniel and Landrine Eggers, and another William
Baird.
Jonathon is probably the youngest of Samuel's children, and under 16 in
1790.
Then ---on 30 Sept. 1799 ,Again, we find Samuel and his sons signing a
petition
to create a new county from Sumner,County,Tenn.Samuel Sr. and Jr.Andrew
,William Jonathon and Bedent.Beard.
It appears that Bedent, and Samuel Jr, left Tenn.earlier than their
brothers ,as they were not at sale of their fathers estate in Smith ,Co.
Tn. on24 Nov. 1815.
In fact some of Bedents children were bn. in Ky. from 1807 -11( William
and Ezekiel)
Then--- we find a Jonathon, Andrew,Samuel,William, and Bedent in Spencer
and Perry Counties,Indiana beginnig with the 1820 census,and later,Even a
Bedient 70 yrs. old in the 1850 census bn. in N.J.
Hope you find this interesting and helpful.
Fred
