Dear Beards,
In cruising the web looking for J.E.B. Stuart, I came across a little memoir
about a person named John Lewis Beard, of North Carolina, written by his
(estranged) wife, nee' Ida May Crumpler (1862 - ?)
She married Mr. Beard ca. 1880, and led a perfectly awful life with him,
which she documents with Victorian drama. They did have children, and
possibly living descendants. The entire little book is set out, 100+ pages.
It appears to be absolutely authentic - it is in a collection of Southern
memoirs gathered by the Univ. of North Carolina.
If anyone happens to have a John Lewis Beard / m. Ida May Crumpler, check it
out - not that you'll be very delighted with the story of Beard and his
less-than-lovely family.
