It has been a while since I posted and I have a few new things to add so
maybe this information will touch someone.

John Henry Beard (later changed to Bard) was born 1820 in Tyler Co. West
Virginia. d August 7, 1863 in Vicksburg He was married to Mahalia Allison
b.d. September 17, 1820 in Iowa and died January 16, 1886 near Weber, Kansas

John Henry Bard and Mahalia had the following children:
Lydia Jane Bard b.d. March 25, 1854
Alexander Baxter Bard b.d. September 17, 1851
George W. Bard b.d. October 27, 1841 Illinois(perhaps a son
or maybe a brother, etc)
Joseph Henry Bard b.d. December 13, 1849 in Vermillion Co. Illinois
Morman Ballard Bard b.d. August 23, 1858 in Iowa

John Henry was the son of Henry Beard who died in 1822 in Tyler County West
Virginia. Henry Beard was married to Lydia. I believe Lydia later married a
Ballard. They had the son, John Henry, a daughter Susannah, and another son
named Andrew. I think Andrew and Susannah were born in the 1810's.
Susannah married someone with the surname Ballard.
