As I posted several days ago, my 3-great grandmother was Susan (or
Susanna) Beard, born in 1776 in Maryland, probably in or near Anne Arundel
County. In the 1790s she married Stephen Stockett in Anne Arundel, and bore
him two sons. This family moved to Williamson Co, TN, where Stephen soon
died, leaving Susan a widow with two small sons far from what she considered
to be home. She agreed to marry Robert Hulme, a widower with two small
sons, on the condition that he take her back to Maryland. He did, but
within a year or so they were back in Tennessee. Susan apparently felt
betrayed, but the marriage survived and she bore Robert seven children.
The only clue that I have to the identity of Susan's family is the fact
that she named one son William Beard Hulme. Could her father or grandfather
been named William?
I'd love to learn more about my Maryland Beard ancestors.
