Ruth,
I found two John W Beard's on the 1880 census that could be yours. One is
working for a Alaman Wright in Jefferson, Madison Co., Iowa pg 28D and the
other is still living at home with his parents (father's name is Andrew J
Beard b. OH) in Hutsonville, Crawford Co., IL pg 312C.
Since you have birth and death dates on your g-grandpa, John William Beard,
have you sent for a copy of his death certificate? You might luck out and
get the names of his parents from it. I don't have an index for 1860, 1870,
1900, or 1910 census so without knowing more about were they might have
been, it will be hard for me to pin them down for you. I will look in the
1900 and 1910 St Joseph, Buchanan Co., MO census info but please be patient
for it is a large section and I will have to go page by page until I find
them. Will let you know as soon as I do.
