Hi Fred,
I am sorry to admit but I have had my Beards on the back burner for some
time while dabbling in other lines this past year but I always enjoy reading the
Beard list queries.
I am curious as to your query. Have you ruled out your connection to
Alexander Baird/Beard after all this time?
My two cousins and I are still "plugging" along to try to find documentation
on William Beard md to Elizabeth Irwin. We descend from their son Francis
A. Beard b 1765 SC md to (2) Mary Young, dau of Thomas Young, SC. If you
recall, Elizabeth has two brothers, General Robt Irwin, one of the signers of the
Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence and Lt. John Irwin who was an
officer over her son, William Beard, brother of our Francis.
When I say documentation....we want something tangible that reads Willaim
Beard/Elizabeth Irwin....parents of our Francis. We gained this info from
websites and from early NC History books. There is one that is a biography about
the signers. Robert Irwin's biography mentions his parents and some of his
siblings. When John Irwin was listed, we connected that to William Beard's Rev
War Pension Papers where he stated that he served under his mother's brother,
Lt John Irwin. That is how we were able to find Wm and Elizabeth. Such a
nugget of info after a long search.
But I am rambling....just wanted to say hello and to keep up the good work
on this list!!

PS I want to add for maybe a tip for someone out there....Elizabeth Irwin
also had a sister, Mary. She was married to Wm Blackstock. A battle was fought
on their plantation during the Rev War. The Battle of Blackstock. Tarleton
was defeated by Sumpter at this battle! Unfortunately, Sumpter was severely
wounded and was replaced by Gen Nathaniel Greene. However, Greene proved
himself worthy at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in Greensboro, NC where the
British army was weakened which led to the surrender at Yorktown.
