Subject: Schulde Surname
Hello Folks,
I hope that this past week has found everyone healthy and well. I'm new to the list and recently I have been researching my maternal grandparents. My mother's fathers side is Schulde/Haag and my mother's mothers side is Wild/Altmayer. My annual
Thanksgiving migration from Florida to my home town in New York has been
exceptionally productive for my mother's paternal line, Schulde. There are a few things I'm asking for assistance with, hopefully those of you on the list with more knowledge than me will be able to lend a hand.
My great grandfather Michael Schulde emmigrated from Temeswar, Romania to Ellis Island 1907. Several members of the Donauschwaben list and the Banat list were able to help me solidify the family knowledge of ancestors through listings on www.banaterheide.de<about:blank>. I was able to track Michael Schulde back to
George Schulde back to Franz Schulde back to Eberhard Schulde.

I looked up Franz Schulde's birth town of Tschanad (Cenad) and came across
this article on GenealogyRO regarding the town's history:
http://www.genealogy.ro/cont/18.htm<about:blank>
On page 4 of the 6 page article, Eberhard Schulte is listed as coming to the
town from Isingheim (Eslohe), Sauerland around 1765.
Family history holds from several of my contemporary Aunts and Uncles that
they were told that the Schulde family initially stemmed from Belgium
somehow. Cetrainly when you look at Isingheim/Eslohe on www.multimap.com<about:blank>,
the town is just north of Bonn near the Belgian border. One of my Aunt's
memories was jogged by a conversation she had with a customer service rep
who took an interest in her maiden Schulde name, as he had it in his family
tree. She was told that in Belgium there was a Schulde river and that that
is where the Schuldes had come from originally. An Uncles memory was jogged
to the fact that my grandfather had said that he knew that there was a river
Schulde in Belgium. Again, a search on multimap showed both a river Schelde
and a town Schelde.
Here are the questions:
1. Does anyone know of an online searchable name database for
Isingheim/Eslohe, Sauerland, Germany?
2. Schulde, Schulte, Schelde are the same?
3. I've tried several times to find a history on the town of Schelde and the
River Schelde. Does anyone know of a history on the derivation of the names.
Would the town and river have been named after the person or visa versa?
4. Does anyone have a link to a searchable name base for Schelde, Belgium?
I'm looking forward to being an active participant on the list. Thanks in advance for any information you can lend.
Thank you,
Ed Siarkowicz
