Hi All,

>From 1998 on a GenConnect Queries board for Belgium exists, maintained
by FranceGenWeb. Many of our listmembers and others have used that
board. At this moment nearly 400 postings are available.

Within the context of our BELGIUM-ROOTS project, there was a need for
a more local oriented, but open, set of meeting-points. The GenConnect
system does fit very will for that.

In the mean time those regional sets does already exist for the
NETHERLANDS and LUXEMBOURG, and do have a good traffic. Rootsweb has
also made possible to "gateway" the postings on these boards to one
mailing list. Our subscribers can see what's going on those boards.

So I've asked to be admin of the existing board (last week), to create
a set of regional boards (done today) and will ask to create the
provincial boards this evening (normally done Monday). The postings on
the General and Emigration boards will gateway to the BELGIUM-ROOTS-L
mailing list in the future (but not at this moment). I hope that all
is OK (configured and running) around next Wednesday.

These resources do belong to BelgiumGenWeb and will be administrated
by someone of the BELGIUM-ROOTS project. At this moment it's me, but
I'm willing to pass this duty to an other active member of our Team
once these resources are running smoothly.

BelgiumGenWeb of the WorldgenWeb project is more known as the VVF site
"Genealogy in Belgium".

The BELGIUM Visitor Center for GenConnect has also been created. From
there you can see the list of boards that really exist and go to them.

AOL: cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/index/Belgium.html

And the corresponding GenConnect page "in construction" on our site
is:

AOL: belgium.rootsweb.com/genconnect.html
With links to the other Visitor Centers of the Low Countries.

I will reduce the numbers of postings to less then 150 (as asked by
Rootsweb), archive the older ones and make them available on our site.
A "beta" version of a archive page for one month (Jul 98) is already
present. Those postings aren't yet deleted. These archive files will
be indexed by GenSeeker (and other major search robots) within the
month.

This evening I will post about WHY I did create these set of boards.
And place that in the general context of the Belgian genealogical
research. I did post this mail, because I want that you know what's
happening from first hand. But I'm aware that some of you have some
questions.

After that I will post some information to the other Rootsweb mailings
lists of the Low Countries.

Be aware that at this moment some of the regional boards aren't yet
fully configured. But you can already use them. The complete process
must be finished around the end of this month.

Last, but not least, I want to thank Pascal Pinan-Lucarre of
FranceGenWeb, for the fact that he administrated the BELGIUM Board
until now and has passed the board to our project. He made this
resource available to the Internet community, when he did see a need
for this. And did a good job in administrating this resource. Thanks
for your dedication.
