Hi Belguim Listers,
I have a few inquiries so bear with me.
My great grandmother was named Justine Mourinier (several alt spellings:
Morinier, Mourineau, Morineau, Mosenier) I'm not sure what the original
spelling is because all my sources of records are American. She was born in
1865, probably in the Southern part or the Walloon area of Belguim. Her
parents were also born in Belguim as stated on the 1900 US census for
Michigan
It is unclear whether her family migrated to France first or right to Canada
(then down to Upper Penisula Michigan in 1891) There were other Mourinier
family members, Leopold and Mathilde, with her according to a baptismal
record of one of Justine's children. I believe they are her siblings.
I've looked up in several different areas for Belguim names and I can't find
this name or any of it's variants. For those of you on the list in the
Walloon part of Belguim is this name uncommon? Does the spelling give a
clue, where in Belguim ,she might have orginated from?
Also, is there a list of ships that departed from Belguim around the 1883-84
time frame?
Someone posted the code numbers for the Belguim census a while back. Would
they repost it and give the years??
I appreciate any help or assistance to lead me back on the right road again.
Right now, a lot of my leads have been dead ends.
Thanks again,
laura
