Hi Paula,
"Passager Belges partis vers L'Amerique en 1856" was written by Father
Jean Ducat. I don't have my French dictionary in front of me but can give
you the general meaning of the headings: Date & lieu of Naissance = date
and place of birth; Parti de = departed from (villiage name); sur = in or
upon (name of the ship they came on or date they came); pas. fixe' a = ships
passenger number on the manifest and where they were headed.
If your GGG Grandfather was in Manitowoc that is a bit south of the
major settlement in Northeast Wisconsin but I agree with Kim that you should
check the reseach center at UWGB you may find a declaration of intent there.
The Belgians in this area took several different routes including through
New York, Quebec, and some later immigrants came directly through Green Bay.
Note Green Bay kept no records that I know of.
If you are looking for a genealogist specializing in the Belgians of
Northeast Wisconsin I would suggest Mary Ann Defnet who lives in Green Bay.
