Hi, those "hair wreaths" were made into intricate designs...flowers, leaves,

and other shapes. These are highly prized by certain antique collectors
today. I have a friend who has quite a few of different sizes. They are in
deep frames, sealed to keep out the dust.

Hi Vickie,

I haven't been able to find the article as of yet but here is some info on
Mourning Rings:

http://www.poesattic.com/articles/mourningrings.html
http://www.thingsgoneby.com/fine/mourning.htm This site has some mourning
jewelry and books on the subject
http://www.hairwork.com/remember.htm This site also mentions hair. Hair
of the loved one was take and woven into a design and placed in frames as
well as other things.

We had our 10th annual picnic of the Belgian - American Heritage Society
of West Virginia yesterday (Sunday). Often times people will bring their
family momentos for everyone to see. One item which was brought was a
"Mourning ring". It is an all black band which one wears after a spouse
dies. Does anyone know any other information about this? Who presents the
mourner with the ring? Any information on this would be appreciated.
Sincerely, Vickie
