Hi all,

The Belgian Roll Call did have too much success, so that we did look for an
other and permanent solution. After some trials we did decide to use a
database system. When we wanted to start the design of it, I did feel that
something was changing on the side of Rootsweb. So I did postpone further
action, but couldn't realy communicate about this with the other members
involved in this. Because my info was too weak. I do apologize for this
lack of communication. Understand that this was done to keep the project
alive in the long run.

Postponed are also in this context the design of the logo, the occasional
test of our site by a group of members with different browsers, etc ... .

The fog is gone since the 4th of August and I do now have an idea what's
going on inside Rootsweb (and concerning their owners MyFamily.com Inc.).
My conclusion is, concerning the BELGIUM-ROOTS Project, that we will
probably be able to function within the Rootsweb context as before and that
even better then before.

I do have other commitments at this moment. Some happy (vacation with my
wife, ...) but other less (upgrade of my PC postponed since end 2000, etc ..).

So I've planned to call for a _virtual_ meeting of our Management Team,
preceded with a real meeting of the Belgian members, only somewhere in
October/November. These meetings where initially planned around Eastern. At
that moment I will have concrete structural and technical options. Based on
that we will probably decide what we will put in our database and what not.

As the number of subscribers to this list is more then doubled since we
held our last Roll Call, I feel that we need a new Roll Call until then.
Because it will be 2002 before you will be able to use our database.

In a separate posting I will launch an update of the Roll Call, but also
limit his context, so that the list will not be overwhelmed. The format
will be slightly different, so that it can be easily converted to or
planned database.

I want to thank Linda Thorpe for what she has already done for our project,
and probably will do in the future. The fact that her address wasn't
changed in an specific roll-call address (as planned) was an oversight of
me. I did forget to do that around Easter. It will be done this month on
the site (when my PC is upgraded). I apologize for that.
