Thomas has given you one answer, and that may be 48 generations or more in
the past!
The other reason is because I keep the Project public on the books of Family
Tree DNA, Ltd and encourage participants to sign the FTDNA release form!
The rationale being, I provide identity protection on my BEAL SURNAME DNA
PROJECT web pages, which are public, by using a surname code on the Y-DNA Test
Results page and migration pages, with the exception of my participants, who
have requested to be added to my Participants Page by earliest Ancestor and their
email address.
By keeping the project open, I make sure we do not miss any possible matches
that might establish a continuity broken by adoption or other unknowns like a
stone wall created by loss of records.
A good example is the parents of my ancestor, William BEAL(E) 1664, York, ME
are unknown, as there are no records, furnishing that information!
If a match in markers to another surname of the same vintage and location, it
would be something I would want to try to follow through on!
Also I recommend the following explanation on understanding matches & genetic
distances, should be followed through by participants in the project!
They can be found at my "What's New" web page at
http://hometown.aol.com/bealsurnamedna/whatsnew.html
Every effort is made to keep the participants up to date by furnishing
information they need on that page.
If you have other questions, contact the new Co-administrators listed on that
page also!
You may contact me anytime at my email address for the project at
