Hello folks:
Here's what I have on the Bell branch from Kirkcaldy in Fife, Scotland who
immigrated to Botetourt County, Virginia in 1817:
William Bell - (born ca. 1738 died 1793 Abbotshall parish, Fife). Married
unknown woman.
His Wife: Unknown.
Their Children:
1. Son - William Bell Jr. (born Jan. 19, 1765 Abbotshall parish,
Fife died April 18, 1835 Pattonsburg, Botetourt County, Virginia). He married
Ann Nicol, Anna Nicol or Mary Ann Nicol Oct. 13, 1790 in Kirkcaldy parish, Fife,
and Dec. 25, 1790 in Abbotshall parish, Fife. LDS Batch #M113997, film #2034467.
He apparently immigrated to Virginia in 1817 with his family.
His wife: Ann Nicol, Anna Nicol, Ann Nichol, Mary Anna Nicol or
May Ann Nicol (born Jan. 19, 1765, Liberton parish, Lothian, Scotland died
Dec. 1, 1847 Botetourt, Virginia). She is believed to have used the name Ann or
Anna Nicol in Scotland.
Their Ten Children:
1. Son - William Bell (born Jan. 8, 1792 Abbotshall
parish, Fife died Aug. 30, 1793 Abbotshall parish, Fife). Buried Sept. 1, 1793
Abbotshall Cemetery.
2. Daughter - Margaret Bell (born Feb. 2, 1794
christened Feb. 8, 1794 Kirkcaldy parish, Fife died May 28, 1881 Pattonsburg,
Botetourt, Virginia). Buried in the Johnston-Boyd Cemetery, Buchanan Botetourt
Cemetery, Virginia.
3. Daughter - Helen Nesbit Bell (born April 9, 1797
christened April 23, 1797 Kirkcaldy parish, Fife died July 25, 1854 Buchanan,
Botetourt, Virginia). LDS Batch #C114427. Mother listed as Ann Nicol.
4. Daughter - Ann Bell or Anna Bell (born May 18,
1800 Kirkcaldy parish, Fife died Dec. 1, 1847 Pattonsburg, Botetourt, Virginia).
LDS Batch #C114427.
5. Son - John Bell (born Feb. 19, 1802 Kirkcaldy
parish, Fife died Jan. 26, 1816 Kirkcaldy, Fife). LDS Batch #C114427.
6. Daughter - Jean Bell or Jane Wedderburn Bell (born
April 26, 1804 Kirkcaldy parish, Fife died Dec. 4, 1846 Milton, Botetourt
County, Virginia). LDS Batch #C114427. She married Alphonso Finney Sept. 6,
1824, they had at least two children. Her mother listed as Ann Nicol.
7. Son - William Bell (born Oct. 15, 1806 Kirkcaldy
parish, Fife died Aug. 2, 1827 Florida). LDS Batch #C114427.
8. Daughter - Mary Allen Bell (born Dec. 26, 1808
Kirkcaldy parish, Fife died Oct. 8, 1844 in Virginia). LDS Batch #C114427.
Mother listed as Anna Nicol.
9. Daughter - Christian Bell, Christianna Chalmers
Bell or Christiana Chalmers Bell (born May 20, 1812 christened May 28, 1812
Kirkcaldy parish, Fife died May 7, 1862 Nashville, Davison County, Tennessee).
LDS Batch #114427. She married William Talbot Hardy Jr., they had at least two
children. Her middle name came from the Fife cleric Thomas Chalmers, who led the
Presbyterian Disruption. Mother listed as Anna Nicol.
10. Daughter - Elizabeth Ogilivie Bell (born Dec. 23,
1814 Kirkcaldy parish, Fife died March 19, 1878 Buchanan, Botetourt, Virginia.)
She married John Nash Johnston of Prince Edward County, Virginia, on April 4,
1833 in Pattonsburg, Botetourt County, Virginia, they had seven children
between 1834 and 1851. Her mother listed as Anna Nicol.
