Hey Wayne! -- In what's left of my memory of the fifties, I see "L.O.S."
in stencilled letters written across, maybe, a flag? A wooden periscope?
Seems to me I never found out what, if anything, it stood for, but did a
lot of guessing. If it was a secret society, I was on the outside. By
"pigeon coop", do you mean the back sheds at the Dumas place? I think
quite a few places had chickens, rabbits, pigeons, etc., post war, but
most, including us, got out of the backyard livestock business by the
'fifties. We had three different "clubhouses" under those sheds at one
time or another, Johnny's being the flagship. Dave's was the last one to
appear (the only one actually built as a clubhouse). I remember that
when mould appeared on the walls of the secret "cellar" dug under the
floor of that one, Johnny referred to the fuzzy white patches as
"McGuckens", which you pointed out ("Hey, watch it!") was the name of
the bishop presiding at your upcoming confirmation. --- mike d.
