Hey Al! --That show where the guy says,"Broadway is my beat": I think
that was "Broadway Is My Beat"! I can't recall who played that
detective, but most of those guys were played by someone from movies,
like Dick Powell or Alan Ladd or Vincent Price. The lead tough guy
would usually come on at the beginning and say a few words of
introduction, always ending with a tag line like "I'm a cop" or "Yours
truly, Johnny Dollar". Remember how "Gangbusters" always started with a
long barrage of machine-gun fire? We were probably the last generation
who knew why we said "He came on like Gangbusters".

That was "Ming the Merciless" who terrorized Flash and his buddies, and
I have this vague notion Flash's girlfriend might've been called "Ray",
though I don't know why I think that. Whenever I remember that show,
we're always in the La Tourelles' little house, hunched around a TV at
the back wall. Those TV guys had a sweet deal going in the early
fifties, pocketing wads of Procter and Gamble's money in exchange for
re-marketing Flash and Charlie Chan and Bulldog Drummond to us kids (not
to mention Laurel & Hardy and the Little Rascals and Farmer Al Falfa).
Of course, Annette, now there was fresh talent! ---mike
