Biography Time: Janet Jamieson Durward White, 54 as of March 2, living in
California.
I am a technical writer and editor by trade and poetry and short stories by
avocation, with an article to be published in U.S. Scots On Line in May.
It was going to be this quarter, but they have decided to devote a whole
issue to genealogy and "Finding Jessie" will be the cover story. I have
two grown children. The son, Christopher Alan is career U.S. Army
currently stationed in Indiana and the daughter, Lanisa Elizabeth, is a
nutritional counselor here in Fresno.
My father was born in Scotland. in case you can't tell from the name he
gave me :-), so I feel particularly close to my "cousins" across the pond.
For any of those who have joined the list since the last time I posted the
history, the Bisset part of the lineage is my great great grandmother,
Margaret Bisset (b 1835), who married James Hunter in 1856. She was the
daughter of Thomas Bisset (b 1810) and Henrietta Liddel. Thomas was the
son of David Bisset (b circa 1785) and Margaret Gillespie who resided in
Old Monklands. At this point I don't know where David was born or his
parentage. They had several children in addition to Thomas: Mungo, Mary,
Robert, Alexander Gordon, David, Margaret, Agnes, and James. Mungo is the
connection to several of the Bissets from down under.
