Hi all,
Not exactly lurking but quietly observing the slowly changing dynamic of
this list..............seems to be picking up some momentum again......

Having been inspired by this list nearly 2 years ago i'm sorry to say
that my research has been sidetracked into the origins of the Bisset(s),
arriving in Scotland early 13thC.,

However my favourite Bisset is someone i have little information about
other than he was blacklisted by the 'squirearchy' at the turn of this
century for trying to secure better conditions, pay and rights for farm
workers in northern Scotland and as a result was prevented from
employment..........he was my GGrandfather.

gg James Bisset c1880 from the Black Isle
g James Bisset c1910 Perthshire?
f James Duncan McGregor Bisset c1943 Stanley, Perthshire.
me James Hughson Bisset 1964 Edinburgh

I like many Bisset cousin ancestors am a father of daughters, when
writing and reading family historys, especially like mine, i have the
strangest of thoughts that it might be necessary to pass on the family
name through a male line.......but i have never had an overwhelming
preferrance for a son and now since i am divorced and in my mid thirtys
the chances are legitamately fewer......
i feel even less inclined to be a father of sons, and yet
controversially, the possibility if not the opportunity exists to be yet
the father of son(s)........and if we are to believe the programmes made
on behalf of the biologist fraternity it is less to do with what we as
individuals think is right and more to do with the preservation of the
species and that it is our genes themselves that dictate our
procreation.............is it enough that my ancestors genes are carried
through my daughters and my cousins children?
In these times of dwindling family tradition is what i am experiencing an
echo from the past conversations between family elders and their links to
the future?..............who knows......it is amusing and curious that's
for sure.........................
....has anybody else experienced this?...........speak up.......we are
family after all....................
Regards
James
