Hi Al, Dave and Steve,

First let me suggest that we move this conversation to the general list.
While I enjoy a good side conversation, I think that the entire list would
also benefit from our discussions. While most might not connect with the
topic, we should at least give them the opportunity to decide. Besides, you
never know when someone else might have some additional information that
could prove useful. Why else would we have a Blackadar list? Perhaps Dave,
you could go back through the emails and submit them in order to the general
list.

Now on to the good stuff....
I do agree that from what Al has sorted out, Elizabeth Blackadder seems to be
related.... that is, to my branch of the tree. The only way we/I can get a
definitive answer is to ask Elizabeth herself. Evidently Ms Bumpus did not
take the best of notes while interviewing her.

As for the question of William's birth. I'd like to add one other.....
William of St Ninians (h/o Jean Burgess) whom I firmly believe(albeit a lack
of certificate documentation) to be the father of my John
Blacketer/Blackadder (h/o Mary Kerr).

1 Malcolm Blackader m:16 Dec 1726 St Ninians, Stirling (LDS batch M114887)

2 James Blackater ch:9 Sept 1727 m: Janet Rae
2 Agnes Blackader ch:24 Nov 1729
2 John Blackater b: 20 Apr 1732
2 Elizabeth Blackader ch: 11 Apr 1733
2 Jennet Blackater ch: 22 May 1735
2 William Blackader ch:21 Mar 1738 (LDS batch C114885) m:Jean Burgess
2 Thomas Blackater ch:20 Aug 1740 m:Agnes Hall
2 Margaret Blackader ch 22 Sept 1744

Dave, this was from information that you sent me back on May 30, 1999. I
have a paper copy but not on disk. If you can't find it, let me know and I
will retype it for everyone.

In looking at the dates of the sons births and then some of their marriage
dates, most married in their late 20's to early 30's.... This was the case
with William. He married Jean Burgess when he was about 32. This would
suggest to me that he may very well have left the area - perhaps to East
Lothian - to learn a trade and came home to make a life for himself. I have
been unable to find a marriage record for them or for possible parents for
Jean. Their son John was born in 1771 in St Ninians, but there may be
another first child. There is also a gap of about 7 years between John and
James(1778).

So there you have it..... another William.

Take Care,
Sue
