Hi Sue, Dave, and Steve:

Steve correctly pointed out my goof in naming the parentage of the Edrom
William. I have the correct information in my db, but somehow copied it out
wrong. I shall correct the message if and when I send it out to the net.

I have sent a letter to Elizabeth Blackadder using an address I found in
the UK telephone directory, which may or may not be the correct one. If I
get a reply, I will share anything new that comes of it. Maybe I should try
to give her a phone call.

I have not previously seen this Malcolm Blackader family. If in fact 2
William married Jean Burgess, then Judith Bumpus must be way off the mark.
Maybe we will get more information if we can contact Elizabeth B.

I know that noone else agrees with my belief that the way names were
spelled has significance. By the times we are now talking about, spelling
is pretty consistent, and the only place we find two d's being used
consistently is in Berwickshire. So, when I see names in this era like
Malcolm's spelled with one d or t, I put them with the Tulliallan crowd.
This includes most or all of the Dysart people. It was not easy to walk
from Edrom to Dysart or Dunfirmline. (We know that there were descendants
of Patrick Blackader of Tulliallan in Dunfirmline.)

I would be pleased to have the discussion moved to the net. How should we
proceed? Should we perhaps wait until some of the loose ends are settled?
Do we need to worry about a direct quotation of a recent book, or the fact
that some of the people whose birth data we are talking about are presently
alive?

Al
