Hi Listers

My mystery person is my great grandfather, George Adam BLACKMAN. George married my great grandmother Sarah FREEBORN on June 24, 1897 at Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sarah was born and raised in Dundas, Ontario just outside of Hamilton. Don't know why she was in Michigan, but it might have been an arranged marriage. Sarah was born in 1857, so she was 40 years old at the time of marriage. They lived in Hamilton, ON and had one daughter, Marjorie Alice BLACKMAN, born June 4, 1899. George was a barber by trade. I know absolutely nothing about his family or his life before 1897, with one exception - the other part of this mystery!
In Sept. 1909, George went to Chicago, apparently to apply for a Civil War pension. The very last he was heard of is a postcard he sent to his wife. It is postmarked Sept. 26, 1909, and reads "am in C will write you in a day or two Keep up a good heart - Geo." Sarah noted "Geo went away on the 13th of September 1909"

George was never heard from again. If he was in the Civil War, I am guessing his date of birth to be between 1838 and 1848, and no idea of place of birth or parents. I have no clue why he disappeared, whether by choice or if he met with foul play, accident or ill health or sudden death. ????
My question to you, listers, is this - Has anyone come across the name of George Adam BLACKMAN in your research? I would be pleased to hear from you.
