Here is what I know, a Joseph Blackman was born about 1786 in New Jersey and
died on February 25, 1831 in Charleston SC. He was married to a Sarah
Kearsley (born before 12/25/1802 and died 1/2/1877 in Charleston SC).

If anyone has any ideas of where I might try and find the parents of Joseph
Blackman, I would truly appreciate your help. He was my 3rd great
grandfather and I hit a brick wall at trying to find any information prior
to him.

For what it might be worth, the had the title of Captain, but I have no idea
if it was military or not.
