Deaths
Dwayne W. Blaha, 70, of Bennington died Friday, June 9, 1995, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. He was born June 9, 1995 at Salina, the son of Joseph and Iva Blaha.
Dwayne was a lifetime resident of the Bennington area. He was a third generation farmer-stockman on the family farm east of town. He retired in 1990 and moved to Bennington. He served in the Army in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He met Marie in 1947 and they were married in 1948.
Dwayne was a past member of the Bennington School Board and was an active booster of high school athletics. He was an early participant in the Bennington Saddle Club.
Survivors include his wife Marie of the home; three sons, Mike of Austin, TX, Rod of Clifton and Dave of Kansas City, MO; a brother Ralph of Wichita; two sisters, Lorraine Hudson of Lenexa and Beulah Freed, Ft. Worth, TX; and four grandchildren, Amanda, Corissa, Emil and Isaac.
Services were held Monday, June 12, at Shields Funeral Home in Minneapolis, with Rev. James Cox officiating. Jeff Comfort was the vocalist and Marjorie Boster was the organist.
Honorary bearers were John Crow, A.J. Wagner, Clyde Wood, Dave Comfort, James McClain, Louis Breneman, Charles Krisher and Dwayne Walls. Casket bearers were Bill Weiland, Jack Stenfors, Tim Wolf, Greg Wolf, Jay Wagner, and Lyle Tinkler. Interment was in the Bennington Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Bennington Ambulance Fund, the Episcopal Church or the Bennington Senior Center.
