Hello Marie - This is what I have on the Springfield, VT, Oliver Bly:

"Act empowering selectmen of Springfield, Windsor County, to sell real estate of Oliver Blie, who, for a long time, has been insane." (Martha Hoffman Rising, Vermont Newspaper Abstracts 1783-1826 (NEHGS, 2001), p. 103, citing Bennington Gazette issue of 22 Feb 1793)

"An act empowering Simeon Brown, administrator of the estate of Oliver Blye, late of Springfield, deceased, to sell real estate" (same reference, p. 133, citing Bennington Gazette issue of 5 Dec 1794)

1790 census (which you have?) in Springfield: 4 males 16+, 3 females

1782 tax list in Springfield: Grand list of real and personal property of the inhabitants of the Town of Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, 1782 (transcription online: www.genexchange.org/history)

I believe that Windsor Co, Vermont, was the home of a James Bly, who was b. Plaistow, NH, and m. in Norwich, Windsor Co. He was (I think) a descendant of the family of James Bly whose family lived in Plaistow (who may have been a descendant of John Bly, the Salem, Mass., brickmaker). Other Blys in Windsor Co are Michaels and Moseses, names which also appear in the Plaistow group.

I still have not found the answer to the origin of my Oliver Bly and have not found a connection between the Springfield man and mine.

Hope this helps, Pat
