ditto Kay. The bylaws committee, if I remember correctly, decided
specificaly to leave out the provision for an assistant NC. The committee
felt that it would be better to leave it up to each board and NC as to
whether they wished to have one.

I too am in favor of asking Tim to serve but I think we may want to discuss
what would be expected from an Asst NC. There wouldnt be much point of
appointing him to the position if there was nothing for him to do. I know
when I took over Texas I knew I was going to need some help but I wasnt
exactly sure what kind of help I needed. I took a short period of time to
determine where my greatest need of help was.

I think possibly a good duty for the Asst NC would be that of public
relations/publicity. Specificaly he/she could be responsible for seeing
that the main purpose of this organization is not misrepresented, the name
is correctly stated, possibly speaking to groups when possible, that sort
of thing. The NC is specifically in charge of the day to day operation of
the project so I feel this would be a benefit to the project to have the
Asst NC devote their time to this. comments?

My last comment is that I think that in the event that something happens to
the NC the bylaws call for a board member to fill in until a special
election can be held. I think this is important simply because the board is
made up of elected persons. I think that if there is an Asst NC they would
be a logical choice to run for NC in the special election but since it is
an appointed position I would be in favor of leaving the clause as is.
