Joe & Fellow Board Members,
Thanks for thinking of me but as I have already explained to another board
member, that wanted to nominate me for the position, I just do not have the
time right now to do the job. Summer is our busiest time at work and with
just one week before nominations are due to open whoever the chairperson is
is going to have to be able to devote a great deal of time to this task.
Further, and I will be making a formal announcement this weekend, I have
decided that effective Aug 31 1999 I will step down from the board and not
complete the second year of my term. I've served on the board now for about
a year and a half, which is much longer than I ever intended, and I feel
that it is time to return to Texas and devote my time there. By making this
announcement now my board position can be included on the ballot in the
coming election.
If there is anything that I would like to leave this board it is this. "If
it ain't broke don't try to fix it". In hindsight I think that the project
as a whole is better off when this board just does the housekeeping type of
things such maintaining the website, the domains, and overseeing the
elections. Beyond that even the discussion of change seems to do much more
harm than any good the change could possibly do. As much as many of the
State Coordinators seem to hate discussing anything political I think that
major topic discussions should probably take place at the state level and
unless there is a situation that threatens the existance of the project the
board should try to steer clear of initiating change. Just my opinion for
what its worth.
Thanks
