Good Point Betsy... That was also the intent, that finished census transcriptions
would reside in the digital library. Of course we didn't spell that out either.
On another Archives note... Up until this time all Archives links are within the
Archives Project. I have an Official Virtual County Courthouse Project in the
works. It contains images of some of the oldest probate administration files in
the courthouse. There are volunteers transcribing some of these records. There is
a site search engine. Of course it is listed on my county pages and many other
places, but would it be possible for the Archives to link directly to such an
"Official" county project. At this point, I can't just donate the images to the
Archives, (They are public records and can be freely copied. The transcriptions
belong to the volunteers) but I can almost guarantee that if for some reason we had
to take the site down, it would be donated somewhere. This is the URL for the
front page...
http://www.clerk-alachua-fl.org/index.html . At this time it is a redirect (It has
to do with a vendor and a problem with their current records search and image
retrieval system). Click Ancient Records at the bottom to enter the Ancient
Records site.
Fighting the fight to preserve the records that we still have, while we still have
the chance. Sharing them to insure that they always exist somewhere. Do you have
any idea of the treasures lost within files at your Courthouse? Maybe one day we
all will have access.
Have a great day,
