I would like to start this email off with a statement. The opinions
expressed
here are my own opinions, to which I am entitled. I will not get into a
debating
contest with anyone about anything said in this note. You may of course
reply,
but that does not mean I will reply in return. I think I say most of
what I have
to say here and it is self explanatory. There is one further note I
will be
sending after this one is sent and the same statement applies to that
email as well.
I think that we are all pretty tired of the rancor and continuing debate
over the issues surrounding The Census Project, Ron Eason's actions,
the NC's actions and the Board's actions. The ill willed comments and
general statements of non-support are getting harder and harder to take.
The Board and the NC were elected to do a job. Trust me when I say that
doing this job isn't much fun. We are the personal subjects of very
intense
criticism, no matter what actions we take. I personally agree with
Carol Haagensen and others who have pointed out the the NC and the Board
acted as they saw fit. Elections are just around the corner and the
thousands
of SCs, CCs and other Project volunteers who are eligible to vote have
the only
true power that exists in the entire USGenWeb Project. NOMINATE new
representatives and support the election of these people to the Board.
That is
YOUR recourse. YOU have the power, all of the power. The voters are
the
only ones who can change things, but you must actively participate in
the
process to invoke your power. Sadly, voting has been light in past
elections
which means that MOST eligible voters did not care enough at the time to
cast
a vote, even for the NC position.
I feel compelled to make a few comments about the issues currently "in
the news".
Much is not being completely presented and the omissions cause as much
damage as
do the snide comments and condemnations.
1. The NC did have the authority to delink the Census Project under
current
Bylaws standards in that Ron Eason and the Project were given MUCH more
the than the
required 2 week- period to correct the copyright violations. After all,
this debate has been going on for more than 18 months. As NC, Tim
Stowell had the right to delink this project, as part of his day to day
responsibilities. (I realize that many will disagree with me on this
point and that is understandable. The bylaws are vague in places and
this is probably one of those places). As an aside here, it would have
been more politically correct for the matter to have been put to a vote
before the Board before the delinking took place. But, I do NOT believe
that Tim acted outside of the rights given to him by the bylaws. The
two week period had LONG passed by.
2. Concerning the waiving of the 48 hour discussion period on Motion
00-10, this waiving
of the discussion period was voted on publicly by the Board and passed
ALMOST unanimously.
The Board considered this an emergency because of the Census Project's
incorporation. THAT ALONE was the reason Motion 00-10. Motion 00-10
had NOTHING to do with any other issue than the incorporation. An while
that corporation has apparently been dissolved,
other issues which Carol and others have pointed out make us still
distrust the true
motives of the people involved.
There is absolutely nothing that the NC or the Board has EVER done on a
WHIM. Each and every point has been literally agonized over. You may
not agree with our decisions and there may be disagreement among us, but
again I want to stress that NO ACTION has been taken on a whim by anyone
connected with the Board.
