I have no problem with the EC polling CCs in the SW/SC region to fill the
SW/SC Rep vacancy, and having interested people volunteer is certainly okay.
However, several issues come to mind.

1) Would the EC check the eligibility of each volunteer or will that be the
responsibility of the Board in this situation?

2) If there are several volunteers, which seems possible considering the
four candidates for the one open position in July, will the person with the
highest number of votes be selected, even if that is less than 50%, or will
we request a run-off poll more in line with a regular election?

3) If only one person ends up volunteering, do we automatically appoint that
person?

These last two issues really should be decided before anyone volunteers for
the position to avoid the inevitable controversy that would result by making
up rules along the way.
