Subject: [BOARD-L] Domain situation

Hi Tim,

Would you please forward this to BOARD-L for me?

----------------------

For the AB:

I would like to address the domain name pricing issue. A domain registrar is
chosen only after they meet certain business and hardware requirements set
forth by the governing body. They must maintain these standards or they will
be released from their service to the public.
So, let it be said that "a registrar is a registrar."
The fact that one (Verisign) charges more does not make them better. It just
shows they have a higher markup on their prices.
The AB is duty-bound in this case to assure the membership the best price
when the same service can be had for the lower price. This is the case in
this instance. The membership will be providing the funds for this domain
name renewal. We can renew all three domains for five years for $224.85, or
$404.73 for nine years, with www.budgetregister.com, a reseller for Tucows,
Inc. A very well-respected company. This is the best price I have found for
this volume of renewal.
I urge the AB to take this into consideration and allow the membership to
get the best value for its buck.
