Choosing between the two projects is a bit unsettling to me also, but as
I have reread all of the posts on this subject, I don't see where there
has been any correspondence from the "other" project asking to become a
part of The USGenWeb Project. Have I missed something?

To be quite honest, as both a researcher and a transcriber of census
information I have been totally confused by the "three" census projects
myself. I can only imagine researchers being frustratingly confused by
all of this.

As a transcriber I donated a completed transcription to both projects
and someone in one of those projects returned a .txt file of the same to
me with index and I uploaded it to the county archives, which I happen
to be file manager of. One of the projects I donated the transcription
to immediately linked and posted my transcription (within a couple of
weeks) but the other took a year to do the same, so personally as a
"transcriber" I would have a problem with the slower of the two.

As a transcriber, my feeling is that once I have spent the hours
involved in transcribing a census record (or any other) and it is "on
the web", the more places it can be found the better.

It seems that the archives project that is posting census images is
covered under the archives umbrella and shouldn't be part of this
discussion.

I will have to add that the page that was previously referenced for that
project is confusing to me in that it speaks of needing volunteers to
index those images in the same "breath" as pointing those interested in
transcribing any of these images to the "other" project. And the link
to the "other" project goes to a page with The USGenWeb Project Archives
logos on it. Well, actually, there is an intermediate page before
arriving at the "other" projects front page but both have The USGenWeb
Project Archives logos on them.

So, suffice it to say, I am still confused! Am I correct in assuming
this "other" project is not a part of The USGenWeb Project Archives at
this time?

I believe, for our researchers sake we have a duty to present them with
quality and clarity.

Thanks,
Linda B. Barton

I am very nervous about this one.

I wish I had paid more attention since 1997.

To be totally fair we need to pick the best one.

Can we do that....do we know enough? Don't both contribute greatly to
what
we are all trying to do?

If I had to choose between them, I would have to remain neutral....They
both
do great work.
